I interned at the Financial Times in London in the spring of 2008. Working on the Interactive desk, I researched, edited and produced Flash features for the paper’s website, edited audio and video features and wrote promotional copy for the website and paper. Below are samples of my work.
Islamic finance explained
This feature explores Islamic finance, including animations explaining how sharia-compliant financial instruments work, data reflecting key players and largest bond and loan issuances, and an audio Q&A examining the industry’s future. I worked with FT markets reporter David Oakley to research, write, edit and produce the package.

Global food crisis
This feature maps civil unrest related to the food crisis as well as policy measures governments have taken in response to rapid food price inflation. I researched and wrote copy for the sections on export restrictions and price measures.

Growing pains in America’s sun belt
This audio slideshow tells the story of Queen Creek, AZ, where the local government slashed $5m in spending after cash flow from construction taxes dried up when the housing bubble burst. I edited the script and photos and oversaw production of the piece.
